The Browning Model 1910/71 Target is a rare and desirable variant of the classic FN/Browning 1910 pistol, chambered in .380 ACP and manufactured in Belgium. Unlike the standard 1910, the Target model (often referred to as 1910/71 or Model 1971) was redesigned to meet U.S. import requirements after the 1968 Gun Control Act, resulting in a larger, more feature-rich configuration.
This variant features a longer 4.5-inch barrel, extended slide, and—most importantly—adjustable rear sights, which is why it is referred to as the “Target” model. It also commonly includes larger target-style grips (often with thumb rest), improving handling and shootability compared to the original pocket-sized 1910.
Mechanically, it retains the classic Browning design:
Production numbers for the Target variant were significantly lower than standard 1910 pistols, making them harder to find and more collectible, especially in higher condition.
An excellent-condition example with strong original finish, clean bore, and intact grips is considered a scarce collector piece, often described in listings as “minty” or investment-grade when near pristine.
